Artist Statement 2009
Paint is squirted right out of the tubes and spread across the paper or panel. Then, using a palette knife, I scrape, blend, mound, mix and excavate. As layer upon layer is applied, these excavations reveal interior landscapes within the painted surface. An action-oriented approach, combining movement and mindful awareness, enhances the flow of paint. After struggling with the various elements of the composition -- dark, light, colors, lines -- I finally experience a meditative peace that is reflected in the painting. Later, after the colors have dried, I outline with a fine tip pen, weaving together the colors and shapes in a web of ink. The final result is one of the Wave Series, evoking for me a sense of infinity... in the universe and beyond.

Artist Statement 2008
My work consists of inner landscapes. Adding paint and ink to the canvas or paper, I feel the fire or the sea – or perhaps the green meadow. Excavating through the composition, my paintings express energy and spirit. Process reigns with each stroke as my brush is engulfed by a territory within. Outlining the color with black ink, I continue to go deeper. Finally a painting emerges – faith that the journey is now complete – the elements merge into one.
